Discreet has won an order for its smoke editing and finishing system from new postproduction company, VTR North Ltd.
Located in the centre of Leeds, the facility is set to open its doors in January 2005. VTR North is a partnership agreement between Carl Walters, formerly senior editor at Leeds-based production company Mezzo Studios, and VTR Media Services Ltd. The company wil provide video and 3D post facilities as well as dubbing, radio and voice-over services. VTR North has purchased Discreet’s smoke system on the Intel-based IBM IntelliStation Z Pro workstation running Linux for one of its two edit suites. The smoke system supports VTR North’s core business in the commercials and TV title sequences market. "The relationship with VTR Media Services means that we can offer clients a full package from telecine through editing to grading and graphics," said Walters. "It will be the first facility to be based in the city centre of Leeds and will be SD/HD capable. “I saw smoke and decided that it’s the best system available and the best route for us. The smoke system has an amazing toolset and we expect it to attract a lot of clients. It also offers an easy upgrade path and, being a software product, its flexibility means we can keep our cost of ownership to a minimum.” Discreet’s smoke system was sold to VTR North by authorised Discreet reseller, XTFX, and will be installed before the end of the year.
