PEPPER CHECKS INTO MIKE FIGGIS’ ‘HOTEL’

PEPPER, the leading film and broadcast television post-production facility, have recently completed post-production work on Mike Figgis’ latest feature film, ‘Hotel’.
Pepper were approached by Steve Harrow of Steeple Post Production Services [SPPS] to complete what would be their first digital grading and titling of a theatrical feature to go through the e-lab post-production route.
Emma Zee, Post-Production Supervisor, said: “Due to the complexity in style, look and preparation, of the project, we needed a company who could provide technically excellent results, as well as being able to cope with whatever challenge we put to them. Steeple chose Pepper because of Telecine Colourist Chris Beeton’s experience in video grading of theatrical features, coupled with the digital expertise of the Pepper team.”
The production was originally shot on DVCPro, then conformed in Symphony; since the film is split into 4 pictures within the screen, there were multiple quads which had to be kept in synch with each other. The split screens were then output to Digibeta. Chris Beeton carried out the tape grade using Pogle Platinum and DCP.
The opening titles were also completed at Pepper by Shane Warden using Avid|DS HD. Initially they were put together in SD in real time, then once they were approved Shane “up-res’d” them to HD.
Hotel will be screened at the Regus London Film Festival, at 9pm on Monday November 19 2001 at the Odeon West End 2.
