DIFFICULT CHOICES AT LEAF AWARDS

TUESDAY November 13 saw the eighth annual London Effects and Animation Festival (LEAF) Awards Ceremony, held at the London Hippodrome, Leicester Square.
With over 250 entries for the competition the judging panel, which included representatives from Framestore, Glassworks and Smoke & Mirrors, had a tough job to choose just one winner for each category; in fact for the first time in the history of the awards, two winners were chosen in the category of Special Area Animation. A complete list of nominees and winners is attached.
Sophie Trainor, Conference Manager for Digital Media World, said: “The standard of entries was exceptionally high this year, which meant the judging took longer than normal, but it was fantastic to see such high-quality work in every area of effects and animation. With the advances in technology and techniques that we are seeing in this year’s LEAF conference programme, we are already intrigued to see the level of entries for next year’s event.”
The post-production sponsors for the LEAF Awards 2001 were the Moving Picture Company, who will be responsible for providing a showreel of the entries and winners.
Compaq provided the screen on which the nominated films were shown during the Awards. Softimage and Tyrell ensured the festivities of the evening continued by sponsoring the party after the Awards Ceremony.
