PLASA Returns

News Image
From 5 to 8 October, PLASA London returns to ExCeL London to showcase the best in live entertainment technology.

Among the 200 exhibitors is JVC, who are debuting at this year's show. "Our production truck will be at this year's PLASA and will be featuring our full range of products, including our live streaming professional camcorders," explains Liz Cox, JVC Professional's marketing manager. "This is our first time at the show so we're particularly keen to promote our GY-HM890 fibre studio camera to the event production market.
"As with our GY-HM650 handheld and GY-HM850 ENG camcorders, the GY-HM890 has the advantage of having network and live streaming engines built-in; we believe PLASA attracts the types of companies and venues who will find this technology essential as they start to further their reach into live streaming and production."
Audio companies demonstrating new products on the show floor include Sony, Cadac, Yamaha, Digico, Avid, DPA microphones, Raycom and Shure Distribution, who are also a headline sponsor of the event.
As exclusive distributor for Shure, QSC, DIS, Radial, Primacoustic, Sound Devices and Servoreeler in the UK and Ireland, the company has a wealth of entertainment technology to present on its stand, including the new Shure QLX-D wireless microphone system.
"SDUK is proud to support PLASA 2014 in our expanded role as headline sponsor," comments Kirsty Lamport, the company's Head of Marketing. "The show proved itself to be a great success for us again last year, following the move to Excel.
"It will be the perfect place to debut QLX-D, which we look forward to demonstrating to customers during the show, and we'll also have some exciting announcements to make on the first day."
Event Director James Rowley-Ashwood comments: "PLASA London welcomes around 13,000 visitors who are greeted by 200 exhibitors, two seminar theatres, the PLASA innovation awards and a host of networking opportunities and industry parties."
New products at the show include:
• Raycom's Wisycom MFL provides an innovative answer to the transmission of high quality radio frequency signals over long distances. Wireless feeds are converted by laser to an optical signal and distributed over lightweight fiber-optic cabling. Additionally the system offers a remote configuration capability and a choice of multiple RX/TX setups make MFL the ideal choice for tour managers looking to reduce transport costs and increase the quality of RF-based audio at the mixing desk.

• Cadac Holdings Ltd. will show its CDC eight-32, CDC eight-16 and CDC four digital consoles, as well as the LIVE1 compact analogue desk. The company is launching the latest version of the CDC eight software (V2.3), which brings a host of new features to the flagship concert sound console and will exhibit the CDC MC Router and MC MADI Bridge – both of which are integral components of the high performance MegaCOMMS network.
Other features of the new CDC eight software update include a Waves interface card integrated within the console, providing connectivity to the Waves MultiRack server and control via the console touchscreens. This allows up to 64 channels of Waves studio-grade processing tools to simultaneously run alongside CDC eight's own native effects options. The Waves GUI is displayed for viewing and editing on the CDC eight touchscreen. There is also support for the new TabMix iPad remote control App, also being shown for the first time at PLASA.

• DPA Microphones, in partnership with UK distributor Sound Network, will show its full range of live and body-worn mics in PLASA's new Audio Village – an area dedicated exclusively to pro audio.
DPA will have a full live band backline set up to display the host of applications that its popular range of d:dicate and d:vote condenser mics excel at covering, including a full drum kit, amplifiers, acoustic instruments and vocals. DPA's body-worn microphones are known for their quality sound and durability, having recently made news with their new d:screet Necklace and Heavy Duty Miniature Microphones. Visit the stand to enter DPA's 'Wear it to Win it' competition, try on the new d:screet Necklace mic for size and make sure you're at the live draw at 17:00 every day for a chance to win one, Sunday through Tuesday.

• Neutrik shows XIRIUM X. Having wireless transmission between two connectors and a transmission of studio quality audio signals has finally been turned into reality by Neutrik with the development of its innovative DIWA technology. DIWA (Digital Wireless Audio) offers digital data transmission without data compression and provides high-level sound quality. Though wireless, the audio signals are transmitted by DIWA in studio quality. As a result, no compromise from an audio point of view needs to be made in situations where no cable can, or should, be used. With XIRIUM X, a new, innovative product and the entry point into the world of DIWA technology, Neutrik aims to set a new standard in the professional wireless audio transmission.
