Forbidden's Fruit: FORscene And The Future Of The Cloud (Pt. 2)

News Image
(continued from Pt. 1)

As well as providing for established production companies, Forbidden also targets the individual and even amateur broadcaster. Tell us about the company's Clesh software. Is this type of software democratising the industry?

Clesh is a high end and relatively expensive app, suitable for prosumers. It is designed to explore the potential for mobile devices in video production, cloud post production and web distribution. Clesh currently provides prosumers with the world's most cost effective end-to-end 4K workflow, for example. While part of a democratising process, consumers as a whole are still looking to share their clips rather than edit their videos.
With 30,000 accounts so far, Clesh has answered some important questions: What are mobile devices capable of? How can tablets be used in video workflows? What services are professionals hoping to use on their tablets?
Three years and 100 upgrades since the launch of the Clesh app, Forbidden is planning a range of apps for mobile devices to give professionals the full benefit of their tablets.

Just before Christmas, Forbidden was included in the EMEA 2013 Technology Fast500 and received a Certificate of Achievement from Deloitte. What did this mean for the company? What do you think led to its inclusion?

Forbidden has the world's leading cloud video post production service, underpinned by its own high technology, in the very exciting area of media. We are pleased to be independently recognised as one of the fastest growing companies in EMEA - the criterion for inclusion on Deloitte's EMEA Fast500 is based on sustained sales growth over five years.
Forbidden has won a number of awards, and this always sparks lively discussion internally. It also makes us more motivated than ever to continue to grow both our sales and influence. It is good to see the how the company has developed: the early awards came from the City, then we won Technology awards, and now we are winning Sales growth awards.

What can attendees and visitors expect at the Forbidden stand during this year's BVE show?

Forbidden is an engine of change. This applies just as much to the commercial side as the development side. Three quarters of our development is directly relevant to fulfilling the wish lists of clients. The recent ongoing expansion ensures we have more resources than ever to implement changes that are both targeted and relevant to the industry.
Forbidden's core platform is functioning well. Upgrades being implemented now make it easier for clients to adopt FORscene solutions, easier for our routes to market to support large numbers of their own clients, and quicker and easier to customise FORscene to provide greater flexibility in workflows.
With many HD programmes now being finished in FORscene, we are continuing to expand our functionality to support uses further up the value chain.
Forbidden's policy is to release major advances at NAB in Las Vegas and IBC in Amsterdam, but this year we are taking the opportunity of our stand at BVE to provide an insight into the next NAB updates. BVE visitors will be able to preview some of the upgrades being developed for release at NAB, giving them the opportunity, through discussion, to take part in how we change and develop FORscene. BVE is the chance to influence change.
