Mediateket AS Enlists Nevion For Eurovision

A video transport solutions provider for broadcasters Nevion, has been selected by Mediateket AS to provide NRK with a routing solution from its VikinX Sublime range for the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest.

Taking place in Oslo, Norway, the 55th annual Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) first semi-final aired on Tuesday 25th, with the second on Thursday 27th, and the grand final on screens on Saturday 29th May.

Initially needing a new router for studios 5 and 6 in Oslo to help with the upgrading of its news and sports production to HD, NRK chose Mediateket AS to deliver a solution through a public tender.

With the ESC approaching, they also needed a further two routers for the routing in the main control room in time for the contest, and chose Mediateket to provide a solution again along with Nevion.

Terje Togstad, Systems Builder, Mediateket AS commented: "We chose Nevion to help us provide a routing solution to NRK for both the studio and Eurovision Song Contest projects.

"We've already worked with Nevion in the past and their routers have been used elsewhere within NRK, so it was logical for us to use them again."

Terje continued: "The VikinX Sublime was the best router for the ESC project and it integrated smoothly with NRK's control systems meaning they were able to re-use our existing control panels."

Nevion provided two independent Nevion routers, the VikinX Sublime 64x64 – which covers signal formats from analogue video/audio to HDTV - for the ESC project, as well as the VikinX Modular 256x256 router for studios 5 and 6.

The timeline for the integration of the routers was critical and Mediateket AS and Nevion were able to deliver them in time for the contest in May.

Kjetil Bonde, Vice President of Sales for Nevion Europe concluded: "Our existing relationship with NRK and Mediateket AS made the integration process very quick and efficient. Everyone was pleased with the end results."
