About Honeybank

Honeybank is a conservation and study centre, in which all of our organisations and businesses are based. The site is run under the government's "Countryside Stewardship Scheme", and as such has an abundance of wildlife. We do not use chemical pesticides etc, and the whole of Honeybank is a conservation area. Visitors' dogs are not allowed on the premises.

Although not open to the public, we are available for visits from schools, youth groups, women's circles and other such organisations. We also run specific courses on a wide range of animal related subjects, all of which are available to individuals and small groups.

All visits will need to be pre-booked. We can also bring many of our services to you. Please contact us for further details.

Outline Of Our Services
We offer a variety of services which may be of interest:
  • Owl Parties – designed for light-hearted fun, with educational value, with small numbers of guests

Honeybank Training
Staff at Honeybank are renowned for their expertise in the field of animal handling and welfare, and as such are held in high esteem by organisations and individuals working with domestic, captive and wild animals. Our highly experienced team has already trained a wide range of professionals including veterinary, police, fire and rescue, local authority, and pet trade staff in a range of animal-related topics.

Courses are held at Honeybank, on the outskirts of the Peak District village of Ashover, and normally run 1000-1300 and 1400-1700, although it may be possible to run courses at other times and venues. All courses are delivered by James McKay, a Scientific Fellow of the Zoological Society of London, and a qualified educator with many years of practical animal handling, husbandry and welfare experience.

We run specific courses for:
  • Veterinary Nurses (VNs) and Practice Staff
  • Police Wildlife Crime Officers (PWCOs)
  • Fire & Rescue Staff
  • Pet Shop Staff
  • Local Authority Staff

Animal Actors
Honeybank Animal Actors is a highly professional company which is big enough to cope, and small enough to care. For us, no job is too big nor too small, and every job is treated as the most important. Our excellent reputation has been built on this approach, and we intend to keep that reputation.

For almost 30 years, we have supplied animals for film, stills, videos, and live performances. We are a small, dedicated and highly motivated team, working with you to produce the best results. We have hundreds of animals - ranging from locusts to eagles, mice to horses, millipedes to snakes - all raised and trained for the job, and all friendly and highly trained, ensuring the safety of all our team - animals, trainers, actors and other staff - is always given the highest priority.

If we don’t seem to have exactly what you’re looking for - ask us. We have a nationwide network of trainers and owners who keep a wide range of animals. If it’s available in the UK - we can get it.
