Plunge Creations & Evolve - SpongeBob SquarePants at GamesCom 2022

We at Plunge Creations were recently commissioned by Evolve to create a SpongeBob SquarePants sculpture. Our brief was to promote the new THQ Nordic computer game: SpongeBob SquarePants – The Cosmic Shake, to display at GamesCom 2022 in Cologne.

In this game SpongeBob travels through wishworlds dressed in the funkiest of costumes, trying to save the world. So we thought what better way to show this off, than by having SpongeBob dressed in his craziest cosmic costume – a cowboy on a seahorse!

Our team carved polystyrene to create SpongeBob’s form. We then coated him and dressed him in his bespoke handmade cowboy outfit. His hat was covered in fabric and steamed and pinned into place.

Once finished, the SpongeBob SquarePants sculpture was shipped off to Cologne to the Gamescom Computer game convention. We installed him and his seahorse on a barrel, alongside some other installations that we also did for Evolve. Check out our other latest projects at Plunge Creations.

EVOLVE: CRYPTO BUILD

As if the world wasn’t struggling enough, Crypto has now arrived to Destroy All Humans! We were asked by @evolvecsl to create Crypto and his spaceship to promote the new THQ Nordic computer game ‘Destroy All Humans! 2 – Reprobed’ for @gamescom this Summer.

” Crypto is back with a license to probe. The alien invader returns, groovier than ever. Experience the swinging sixties in all it’s chemical-induced glory and take on revenge at the KGB for blowing up your mothership. ”

Our Talented sculptor Jeff created Crypto’s body from clay, then coated in silicone with a fiberglass jacket. It was then laid up in resin and fitted with lights and a metal armature inside. We had previously made the spaceship and a mould for the head for Gamescom 2021, so we remade the head with new art-working to match his new body.

Crypto was then shipped off to Cologne to be installed by our team for Gamescom 2022, alongside some other installations that we also did for Evolve.

COATSINK: PIXEL STICK MAN, THE LAST HERO OF NOSTALGAIA

Are you the last hero and final hope to save “Nostalgaia“?

Last December Coatsink approached us to create a collapsable, human sized pixel stick man. This was for the launch of the new game “The Last Hero of Nostalgaia” by Over the Moon Inc. If you haven’t seen it already, the game is a satirical action-adventure that sees its players fight to save the world of video games from a mysterious pixelated oblivion.

Our designers stayed true to the clients concept graphics in order to re-create the Pixel Stick Man in all his pixelated glory.

Employing aluminium tube connectors, our makers used grub screws to ensure Pixel Stick Man was robust. We needed to make sure he could withstand being taken apart and put back together multiple times. Our team then artworked the aluminium black, whilst also creating his “pixels” using polystyrene. The polystyrene was then also CNC’d and artworked, ensuring the pixelated effect.

Our creatives then edited the pre-existing sword and shield supplied by the client. We wanted to ensure that these specific props would fit onto the Pixel Stick Man perfectly.

Working together, our production and design teams solved the fact that he needed to be freestanding. We fabricated a purpose built base plate. This was to allow the option for Pixel Stick Man to be screwed down into place for safety and stability.

From the start, we designed Pixel Stick Man to be collapsed and fitted into a large suitcase. For flight purposes, Pixel Stick Man’s weight needed to be under 22kg. Our team got him to 21kg finished. We also wanted to ensure that he could then be re-assembled easily, so that he can tour the shows for the games launch.
